Mobile Phone For Elderly: Read Before You Buy

Senior mobile phones are nothing like the new age phones that we use or see in the market. They are probably more basic than the phones we used 8-10 years back. However, there is a rising demand for these phones. Mobile companies have rightly identified the need of simple phones that would suit the seniors. Therefore, they have introduced some very unique phones that have really basic features yet are very much in demand.

These phones are a must have for old people; first because they can keep in touch with their loved ones without even meeting them and second, at the time of any emergency they can call for help easily.

First of all, the phone should be affordable. Most senior people are on fixed income and so, cannot afford to spend much on a mobile phone. This is not really a problem because most of the phones designed for seniors have only basic features and so, are quite cheap.

Second is the keypad. The layout of the keypad should be easy enough for a senior person to use with bigger keys. This arrangement enables them to see the numbers clearly and dial comfortably without stressing their eyes or fingers much.

After a certain age, weakened eye-sight is almost an unavoidable problem. Thus, larger displays on screen help them see better.

It is also very important for such phones to have louder than usual speakers. This is because; difficulty in hearing is a common problem among old people. Thus, powerful speakers help them hear better.

Finally, the phone needs to be user friendly too. Seniors don’t need a host of features, such as emails, HD video, touchscreen and the works. All they need is easy access to stored mobile numbers, responsive keystrokes and easy to understand operations.

One last but the most important point which makes it a perfect package is user friendliness. These phones should not be packed with features. They should be very basic and simple. Once all these points are ticked on your check-list, you know you have made the right pick.
